British High Commission Tours the Meridian Industrial Park at the Tema Free Zones Enclave
The British High Commission recently toured the Meridian Industrial Park at the Tema Free Zones Enclave in Ghana. The delegation, led by the British High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Harriet Thompson, was hosted by the Chairman of LMI Holdings, Mr. Kojo Aduhene.
Also, representing at the formal visit was Mr. Andrew Mitchell, Minister of State in the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office, Baroness Catherine Hoey, UK Climate and Investment Attaché, Mr. Richard Sandall of the Climate and Investment team at the British High Commission, Mr. Wasantha Perara, Chief Operating Officer – Global at DTRT Apparel, Mrs. Salma Salifu, Managing Director Dignity-DTRT Ltd, Mr. Smart Atta Bediako, Superintendent Pharmacist at Sanboa GH Limited, Mr. Suleman Kalmoni, Managing Director at Nissan Motors GH, Mr. Mohammed R. Byronthy, Assistant Managing Director at Nissan Motors, Mr. Lloyd Ashiley, Managing Director at Niche Cocoa Industry Ltd. et al.
In a statement, the Minister of State in the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office, Mr. Andrew Mitchell, commended the work being done at the park and praised the efforts of LMI Holdings in fostering a conducive environment for businesses to thrive. He also highlighted the potential for increased trade and investment between Ghana and the UK and expressed his hope that the industrial park would continue to attract more investors.
During the tour, the delegation visited several factories and warehouses including the international warehousing company (IWLG) which is the largest warehouse in west Africa, and other manufacturing sites like the pharmaceuticals, textile, and food processing companies within the park. The delegation was also given the opportunity to meet with local business leaders and entrepreneurs and to be briefed on the various industrial and commercial activities taking place at the park.
Overall, the visit was seen as a positive step towards strengthening the economic ties between Ghana and the UK. The Meridian Industrial Park at the Tema Free Zones Enclave is home to a number of successful businesses and continues to be a key driver of economic growth in the region. Currently, LMI Holdings – private developers of Ghana’s biggest and foremost industrial parks – have made more room for industrial manufacturing at Dawa. The Dawa Industrial Zone is the new flagship industrial park capable of hosting both light and heavy industries across sectors. It is a 2000-acre industrial park with a fully-serviced infrastructure to support the business environment of manufacturers and promote all economic activities.
